  • AWESOMENESSS! I LOVE POLICY DEBATE!!

  • @sasuke2277 Conflicts of interests, motivations, hidden connections? Read this: papers(dot)ssrn(dot)com/sol3/papers(dot)cfm?abstract_id=1084585

Cass Sunstein is a top Obama czar in charge of the White House Regulatory and Information Commission. He concedes to Popular Mechanics being a controlled asset along with other to "rebut" "Conspiracy Theories" and admits that there are real Government Conspiracies (i.e. Operation Northwoods).

Why would a reliable source blatantly lie? I've never come across any debaters who forge what they read out or read off lies that I've been able to catch. Our team in general has a policy against those who are trying to hide insight from the other team. Of course, the card may ignore specific sides of the argument or events, but that just spurs a soft spot for the opposing team to puncture and to deflate the opposing card.

  • @sasuke2277 I'm not quite understanding your question, please rephrase.

  • @NothingAtAllXD

I believe any issues of lying within cards should be removed. For example, saying that the card says that the United states should maintain relations with the Chinese, when in reality it says: Chinese, Russian, Cuban and Japanese.

I like the idea, but cannot be organized into competitions. It may be competitive within a small group of people, but cannot be properly organized among schools or particular teams.

Doesn't really matter, only the first comment shows in your inbox

Well I see it more as people who enjoy competitive arguing vs people who enjoy cooperative discussion. I mean, alot of the people who are in debate enjoy arguing offensively and doing this competitively. It's less about winning and more about the idea that you want to fight to try and win. Alright, so truth that applies to everyone? How would you manage to find evidence that is completely false on an issue that has a clear-cut absolute truth?

  • @sasuke2277 How about this, Cooperative discussions that turn into debates? That is, the people in a cooperative discussion may feel the need to team up and take opposite sides in certain issues, then they will duke it out in a debate and look for the truth, and they will be passionately debating on their sides. Having an open mind I think definitely outweighs everything, there are so many brainwashed people today that can't question what they are told, (eg people who buy the Official 911 story)

  • @sasuke2277 I'm talking in turns of absolute truth. As in, it applies to every individual. The Law of Gravity applies to every individual here on Earth, so the truth is, is that if every person got in line and jumped off of a cliff, hey would fall and most probably die. 2+2 must equal 4, this is absolute truth for every person. That is what I am referring to, certain things that are going on are the truth. That is what we should be aiming for. By the way, please click reply to MY comments!

  • @sasuke2277 I also see that. But the people who are interested in finding truth will stay versus the people that just want to win. What's the objective of it, to find the truth or to provide a good entertainment (AKA waste of time) and train people to cover lies up well so they can do it in the real world?

  • @sasuke2277

..Standpoint? I'm fine with a new club that is labeled 'cooperative discussion', but debate itself should always invoke competition. I'm not saying that open discussion is bad, but that the advantages of learning to have an open mind and weigh arguments overcome it, and that both can co-exist.

    More time, definitely.
