Tibet : an independent and reclusive kingdom ruled by a monk king, the Dalai Lama, until its invasion during the 1950s by Communist China and the flight of hundreds of thousands of Tibetans, including their ruler, to India. Since then the Tibetan Diaspora has spread across the world.

50 years later , this 3 minute film presents a kaleidoscope of Tibetan identity, in Tibet and in exile. Following the music of Chris Michell and Bhagdro, with no dialogue nor comments, 'Return to Tibet', in association with Tibet Films, is the first step of BAB Production into the rich, moving, colourful culture of the Tibetans, where you can feel and share its sufferings... and its hopes.

  • not all places shown here are in Tibet. The stupa shown with the eyes of the Buddha is in Kathmandu in Nepal. Most westerners mistake Nepal with Tibet as we have similar but not same culture with Tibet.

  • You are absolutely right. This film shows many places in Tibet and outside, where the Tibetan Diaspora lives. This film, as it's called, is about the return to Tibet. One day... 'hope soon!

  • Tibetans are subject to arbitrary arrest and detention. Those imprisoned are often denied legal representation and Chinese legal proceedings fail to meet international standards. Torture still prevails in Chinese prisons and detention centers despite it being in contravention of the United Nations Convention Against Torture.

  • ཊིབེཏ་ Tibet is Tibet ཊིབེཏ་

    中国 China is China 中国

    Today, in Tibet:

Any expression of opinion contrary to Chinese Communist Party ideology can result in arrest.

  • Once a peaceful buffer state between India and China, Tibet has been militarized to the point of holding at least 500,000 Chinese troops and up to one quarter of China's nuclear missile arsenal. Today, it appears that the Chinese are using Tibet as a dumping ground for their and foreign nuclear waste.

  • those weren't monks, haha

    that's called a brothel

  • I have to laugh. I was invited to sit in on some monks chanting for 5 minutes when in Tibet...then they came around and wanted $50 from each person for the Lama...lol

  • This beautiful video was chosen as one of the top 10 Travel Videos (Worldwide) for 2007 at Travercial. Congratulations!

  • comment on this video? i don't know what to say? my only knowledge of tibet comes from listening to The Dalai Lama and the teachings of Tuesday Lobsang Rampa. I can only hope that the chinese railway to Tibet helps the Tibetans and not the chinese? Any people that measures their wealth in gross national happiness is a treasure in this self destructing civilastion.
