Men Having Babies 2009: Legal aspects

Melissa Brisman discusses legal constraints for surrogacy and gay parental rights in various states, possible legal setbacks and risks and how to prevent these challenges, and pre-birth and second parent adoption.

Melissa spoke at the fifth annual "Men Having Babies" seminar, hosted by Center Kids, the family program of the New York LGBT Community Center. The panel was moderated by Terry Boggis, the director of Center Kids.

The seminar included three parts: an overview of the surrogacy and egg donation process by a panel of legal and medical experts; short presentations by agencies and organizations who provide services and support for gay men who want to have babies; and personal stories from NY gay parents, a surrogate and (for the first time this year) an egg donor.
