I videotaped this segment at Cresson, Pennsylvania in 1998, a year before the break-up of Conrail. Cresson is approximately 10 miles from Altoona and there is plenty of railroad action as the trains traverse the Allegheny Mountains. On most trains there are "helper" locomotives at the rear to help the trains up and down the mountains. Note the profuse exhaust of the locomotive at 1:03 which indicates some sort of malfunction.

  • @trainmasterfm2 Yeah, really!

  • Dam that train was smokeing good

  • @tgchopper At first when I saw it in the distance I thought it was a steam locomotive, but I figured it couldn't be. Then I saw the Conrail blue and knew it was a malfunction.

  • @MrTraindude Last time I was up there (Railfest '09) there was a jet snow blower parked at the same spot. I'm curious to see if it's still around when I go back in October.

  • @FastFlyingVirginian I never noticed that until you pointed it out. Cool!

  • Nice job - looked like there was a Sperry railcar in the siding at 0:40.

  • @DouglasP201 You're quite welcome. I'm glad you like it!
