OUT IN THE PARK
Word & Music: Sarah Slean

Don't you know what time it is?
It's the new time
All disciples gathering by the boats
But your revolution is chasing its tail,
You love to take the wind out of my sail
But not this time

In between commercial breaks
It's a new war.
Men with books have run away to the coast
All the ladies quit calling them back
And starting plotting a counter attack
You foolish animals!

She's out in the park conducting the birds
Trying to remember which bicycle's hers,
Filling her pockets with handfuls of dirt
It's amazing
Out in the park

For sale, forgetfulness,
At a new price
I saw it advertised on T.V.
But all the children were busy outside,
Building sandcastles skyscraper-high
You foolish animals!

She's out in the park, conducting the birds
Trying to remember which bicycle's hers,
Filling her pockets with handfuls of dirt
It's amazing
Out in the park

By way of the dark...
The summer sun will be ours...

Out in the park, fight the war!
What are your hearts and your
wheelbarrows for?
Lean on me man, I don't keep score!

Out in the park conducting the birds
Covering France with the trail of her skirt!
Singing a sermon to beautiful earth...
Out in the park

  • Every time someone asks me why I'd want to go into music I want to point to Sarah Slean's face in mid-song and go "see that bliss? that's what it feels like when the music is right. That's why it's worth it."

  • She is super sweet and funny, I recently went to see her concert here in Winnipeg, got to meet her and she signed my "Blue Parade" copy, made her laugh and it was about the best feeling in the world. She was also very funny during her performance.

I was blown away by how amazing she is live, it was just her and the piano, and that's all you needed! Her voice is powerful, everyone needs to experience her at least once.

  • i love this song, sarah's great

  • WONDERFUL!!!

  • @cloudsdescending They dont. Unfounded speculation Scientifically speaking :P

  • @cloudsdescending I've read alot on the subject. I myself am one and have spent years around people with bi-polar at our Bi-polar support group, many who are good freinds. That said, people with bi-polar do tend to speculate about the condition of others, kinda the way gay people like to speculate about the "true sexuality" of others, especially celebrities. In any case, a song like Day One really sounds like "hyper-manic exhuberance" and lots of her original use of metaphor may reveal it also.

  • @terrybeaton how does someone "look" bi-polar?

  • She's brilliant and totally unique. Canada puts out artists like this way more than their share. She looks bi-polar, so many great artists are.

  • I tried to use her music as background for some homework to keep me relaxed, but it didn't work. I was spell bound the whole time and didn't do a thing.

  • @vanillamari I'd really like to experience her too

  • I always find 2:35 - 2:54 to be the most inspiring bit of any song I've ever heard in my life. Whenever I'm upset, I find myself coming back here to hear it. The bliss on her face lifts me up every single time.
