Why are Australian bush hats bent on one side? It keeps the muzzle from getting the brim dirty. Mine has a snap on both ends. When you mount the rifle on the backpack, you snap up the brim on the same side. Simple but effective way to keep gunpowder/dirt off the hat.

This is a great idea! Only thing I do differently is I carry my ammo more towards front and center so I can use either hand to get it.
