Greg Pattillo - Product Review: Sanyo's Xacti Soundrecorder

Every Musician needs a metronome, a tuner, and a sound recorder in their bag. I have been using the new Xacti Soundrecorder by Sanyo for the past month and really dig it, so I thought I would share...What do you use?

I bought it, I like it but I will say one negative if you put it 6 ft from a slamming drummer it will distort even with low mic gain setting and record level set low so the meters do not peak . The mic preamps will not handle that level . A low gain or attenuated external mic should solve that but will be bigger than the recorder. If you don't mind that and 44.1 k 16 bit suits you then this unit is hard to beat. For capturing "normal" acoustic levels great. Even usable for daw import.
