Another upload of a "youtube-quality" edit showing some clips that will be incorporated into an upcoming Blu-Ray video, The Unauthorized Biography of the Virginia and Truckee Railways. The wind was not co-operating with me this morning, but I wanted to show you a few cuts of the crew getting #29 ready and pulling out to make another run to Carson City.
Early in the video notice Ed Gallegos, fireman, giving me a one-fingered salute. Later he is trying to pull out and I'm in his way, he yells at me and I return the salute (off-camera).
This was shot on November 27, 2009, on a cold post-Thanksgiving Day morning. The cold is something I was waiting for as you can really see the steam. Later on this day I was in the cab on the way uphill and you can really hear #29 working. I will load a clip of that uphill trip next week. Then, at the end of this day we made the nighttime first passenger run down the new Phase 3 tracks, loaded in a previous video.
The video is not edited that tightly, there's no narration, and I have not scrubbed the wind out of the shots. I love the ending shot of #29 backing up to the mainline, you can hardly beat Virginia City and the Virginia and Truckee Railroad shops for a good background.

what railroad is #18 from?
trainlover479 1 year ago
@trainlover479 #18 is the McCloud River Railroad #18, its "sister" is #25, which is up for sale. While #18 sits in the Virginia City shops of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, it was purchased by the government commission doing the reconstruction project to Carson City. It was purchased several years ago, was leased to Sierra for operation in California, and was returned with various neglect and damage last year. VTRR rehabbed it and the commission leased it for the movie "water for elephants"
