what's he saying?

@Earthshakingmusic I meant to write "unless", not "if". I'm right-handed but I play congas (not pro) with Tumba on my left because my first instrument is piano/organ and has been for 45 years. Even when I play Quinto I place Conga in front, not to the right. To reach to my right for a lower tone is counter-intuitive to me at least. I would imagine that a lot of other musicians would find the same thing.

@kaferere You had me on "virginal".
Check your congas y bongo ....
-
@Earthshakingmusic No, it's weird if you play piano, harpsichord, organ, synthesizer, clavinet, virginal, vibraphone, xylophone, marimba, glockenspiel, congas and bongos (if you play right-handed), tubular bells, timpani, mouth organ, sarod, zither and many. many more that I can't be bothered to mention. So, to recap : LIKE I SAID, IT'S REALLY WEIRD THAT THE LOW NOTES OF THIS INSTRUMENT ARE ON THE PLAYER'S RIGHT, OK? Understand now? Jeez.
-
@kaferere It's only weird if you use the piano as your reference for what is normal.
-
@kaferere I don't know how a balafon is normally played, but it doesn't seem too odd to me that the lower notes would be on the right. I see it as similar to the way that some cultures read from left to right and some from right to left, although I will admit that I've never seen an instrument arranged like this.
