Live recording of zar music, by Mazaher, one of the only groups who still plays this type of folk music native to Egypt. The music is trance-inducing, starting slow and building to a frenzy at the end. Traditionally it's sung and played by women to purge mental and physicall illness. Some instruments: tabla (drum), nai (flute), simsimayya (strings), belt made with dried sheeps' hooves strung together for percussion.
