  • I remember this well. I lived by the railway line in Chesham and enjoyed hearing and seeing the train go by. I actually rode on the train with my wife and neighbors (Jim and Bertha Denham). This was in 1989. I know this because I am currently having coffee out of my "The First 100 years Chesham Railway" mug. I will have to try and dig up some pictures that I took... Good memories!!!

  • @DenhamHouse This coming weekend there is a railway event at the northern end of the Metropolitan Line and I'm told that Sarah Siddons (the electric locomotive seen here) will be operating some passenger trains.

  • Good vid! Coupla questions:

Was Sarah Siddons "dead in tow?"

    and

How did they get the BR stock to run without electricity?

  • Thanks ;-)

Both locos were alive / providing tractive effort.

Virtually all electric and diesel trains can be moved without power / by locomotives.

This is how they are delivered when new from the factory!

However, life becomes more complicated if the braking systems are not compatible.

The Met Railway originally used steam locomotives - at one time it was just one of the many railways in Britain, it just happened to be partially underground - and it used similar trains.

  • watch the sparks @ 5 minutes as it is gapped when crossing tracks whilst leaving a station.

  • Well done!

btw life as we are living it 'right now' will be the nostalgia of tomorrow!
