24 people work for the harper regime

As an American across your borders, I watch the Canadian House of Commons on C-Span.
Stephen Harper appears to be a a square to me.
I much prefer Dion even though I can't vote for either.
I wanted to immigrate to Canada, but I found the Canadians acting funny around me when I brought up the topic. Why might this be?

@SmileyGarrish But the Greens are fiscally conservative. The Greens and the NDP can't form an alliance because they aren't really the same. Otherwise, there wouldn't be two parties called the Green Party and the NDP, there'd just be one.

Dion's the man!
-
Hilarious. Dion's a bro
-
Why don't you call them 'Dead Opens' instead of 'Cold Opens'. More accurate.
-
This reminds me that the Green and NDP should form an alliance in Canada. A True Left free of Ancient Regime connotations.

Dion is a great guy, I like him, he's funny. But he's not so great at politics.

WHAT THE HELL WAS HE SAYING?

@DownOnMyLuck I'd say the person with the whitest smile is the person the *farthest* away from being the everyman or the friendly electrician.
The reason why we'd prefer an everyman is that we're more likely to believe that he's not trying to sucker us. If we could trust our politicians, we'd rank them solely according to skill.
I don't care what party he/she belongs to, it's just nice to see a politician having a good time and poking fun at their job!

This is the very annoying thing about politics.
You don't pick an everyman to do your heart surgery, nor do you pick an friendly guy to do the wiring in your house. You pick the best surgeon, otherwise you die, and you pick the best electrician, otherwise your house burns down.
What is it about politics that makes us pick the guy with the whitest smile over the guy who would do the best job?
