Italian Cow Fights

Yearly "Battle of the Queens in the Italian province of Aosta, a tradition passed down from herders whose strongest cows harmlessly faced off to determine the owner of prime grazing land. Pairs of cows-dozens in a day-are led to face each other over a pile of fresh dirt, rumored to be scented with bull urine. They snort, stare, paw the ground, and root in the dirt until they decide to go at it, butting heads and locking horns until one (the loser) runs off. It is typically the social event of the year in small towns across the province, with the finals being held inOctober in the city of Aosta. Spectators eat and drink (alot) and wager on their favorites. Did I mention the free flowing beer and wine?
