A couple of our Discovery driving friends joined us at the FOG annual meet at the BALA off road centre in North Wales for a play, but one of them found a nasty underwater step and the other managed to twist his rear axle trying to get him out...

  • ...When He got it up onto flat ground and got the wheel off to have a proper look it turned out that the axle was fortunately OK. One of the site guys straightened the bent bit with a couple of jacks, which was enough to get him home.

    (Hope that makes sense. I'm not sure what the technical name for the bit that got bent is)

  • The strap ended up on the axle so that it could be straigtened up enough to get it out of the way.

    As I understand it, it got that way when he was trying to tow the other disco out of the water and it refused to move. His truck stopped moving but because of the grip his tyres had they snatched at the ground instead of spinning and bent one of the support arms for the axle...

  • i wasnt that luckey went to bala this weekend and broke the tie bar mount of the axle all part of the fun but glad yours was ok with a bit of barn door engineering

  • How on earth did he manage to twist his axle like that? Did he try to recover the disco stuck in the water with the strap around his axle?
