Here's a short video of a neat diesel motorcycle I saw at the Barber Vintage motorcycle show. It's built from a Yanmar 10hp diesel coupled to a variable displacement pump. Then out to hydraulic motors to turn the wheels. Looks are deceiving. There's a lot of aluminum parts to the bike. The bike only tips the scales at 300lbs. The bike can be ran in 2WD or single rear wheel drive. Speeds are about 25mph in 2wd, and 55-60mph in single wheel drive. Fuel estimates are around 100mpg! This is due to the highly efficiency of a hydraulic setup. This setup nets a 93% efficiency rating. The bikes suspension is a air shock setup. Increasing the pressure causes the bike to gain ground clearance. Also shortening the wheelbase for better handling manners. The bike was designed by Andy Wendt and built by Chris Self, Owner of Miracle Machine Works. 334-872-0121

  • The guy had an air ride suspension on the bike. It used some small compressors, that's the noise you're hearing. Again, I didn't build the bike, I only recorded the video at a motorcycle show.

  • yeah thats not annoyingly loud. cool concept not to great on the practical applications, unless pissing people off with all the noise is what you were going for. I really could have done without the 50secs of squelching in my ears.

  • @Set2Survive Sorry to not meet your expectations. Guess its true what they say about opinions and....

  • It's not my motorcycle, just one I filmed while at a motorcycle show.

  • sounds like a old model "A" with no exhaust

  • @tealover01 The sound gets better after the air compressors are switched off.

  • @wyrosdick14 Never ridden a motorcycle in mud I take it?

  • How did you calculate 93% efficiency? I'm assuming you meant for the hydraulic system since the conversion of chemical energy to mechanical work in a internal combustion engine is rarely better than 20%.

  • I see penguins?

  • @WhiteGravey a Harley roars and rumbles, it doesn't squeal like a bitch

  • @WhiteGravey I'm not sure about you but if my bike ever started squelching, I would put up on the rack in my shop and fix it.

  • @Set2Survive isnt that the goal of harley rider?

  • @patracy I'm pretty sure no one expected to have their ears start bleeding when they clicked on your vid. I didnt say, you vid sucked or that the bike sucked, only that the loud squeal was annoying. Have you thought of a way to reduce the noise made by what I'm assuming is a pressure tank of some sort.

  • Have you looked into incorporating a hydrallic recooperative braking system into the powertrain? I am presuming the engine uses mechanical fuel injector pump in an indirect injection config (NO FADEC)?
