This is a dossier on my visit to Fort Jesus in mombasa. Fort Jesus was built by the Portuguese in 1593. Throughout its tumultuous history, the Fort changed hands no less than nine times between the Portuguese and the Omani Arabs, and was used by the arabs as a slave trading centre where slaves were imprisoned in a small cave before being exported to various countries. The fort was later used as a prison during the early colonial period until 1958, and is now a museum run by the National Museums of Kenya.

  • The caves were where the slaves were kept before being shipped, it was not used as a munitions store until the British ran the fort.

  • If you took the trouble to read the story about this video, you will find that the Fort Jesus mentioned here is in Kenya on the East coast of Africa and on the Indian ocean. It has nothing to do with Ghana on the West coast of Africa.

  • @Luso515PorTuoGraal "Saint Jorge" - (Correction); "Dutch" (Correction)

  • It was the Duch that take the Fort in Ghana (São Jorge da Mina - the "ElMina") to the Portuguese in the 17th century.

There were no Arab and Omanites in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • @nakajimadavid Put you the correct Information. A Mina (wrongly called El-Mina) is in the Atlantic Coast, buid in 1482. It was called São Jorge da Mina (Sain. George of Mina) and only decades later became for slave trade. Its first propose was trading gold with west African kingdoms.

Fort Jesus, built in 1593 is in the Indian Ocean! You understand? In the Indian ocean coast - in kenia, to dominate spice trade, among many others in today several countries in that coast.

  • Also check on Vilani Plantation in Tanzania, where all tribes from Tanzania had been taken to the USA and lest of Western Countries by Moses Levine, the slave owner by 1800- early 1920th...

All tribes of Tanzania and Kenya were so called "White Owned African Slaves"!!!

  • In 1498, Portuguese builded Fort Jesus for their slave castle like Ghana's Gold Coast, El Mina...

In 1593, Omani Arabs came to Fort Jesus, but it was already taken and belonged to European slave owners.
