@ glummdelclitch Callas' repertoir is not only composed of dramatic pieces. Most callas "idolaters" actually appreciate the dramatic carrying power her voice had in florid passages and in the bel canto operas like Armida Norma and Lucia. Seeing as Muzio wasn't very apt in this rep, yes, there would be a Callas without Muzio....

This isn't awell known Cilea's opera, and it's difficult to understand why because this beautiful aria is incredible melody rich and dramatic tempo. Muzzio here shows why she was called the divine Claudia; of course she is not at her best, this recording was made at her last by Columbia Records, but still shows how great she was.

Even though they are very different vocalists: Muzio had no florid skills; neither did she have a wobble. Her method was open Italian on-the-mask. The timbre was dark, but never the tone itself.

I don't much care for this music, but Muzio sings it incomparably.

La più straordinaria interpretazione di questa Aria - che è per Mezzosoprano - è quella di Ebe Stignani: splendida in tutti i registri, fulgente.

Il fatto che Claudia Muzio abbia inciso quest'aria mostra tutta la sua duttilità di artista.
