Power Animals

Gerry Starnes, an Austin Texas area shamanic practitioner and teacher, discusses Power or Spirit Animals, including: Totem, Journey Guide, Messenger, and Shadow animals.

"Spirit is always talking to us, always communicating with us. The difficulty is that we are not always listening. We are too busy. Our minds are always in the past or in the future... We don't often step out of our routine and take time to listen to what Spirit has to say.

"Spirit does not talk to us in English, in fact communication with Spirit is rarely ever linear in the way we think about communication. It is not about words. It's more often about images, pictures, scenarios. Even animated beings carry with it the communication of spirit - the wisdom of Spirit....

"We work with Power Animals because we have been with animals for as long as we have been human. In the beginning, we were part of the food chain. We ate things, and things ate us. Most of those things were animals. So we have known animals for 100 thousand, 200 thousand years... We have a long-term relationship with animals. So it makes sense that when Spirit talks to us, it talks to us within a symbol that we understand genetically. And that would be animals."

@xdotxdotxdotx I feel the same way with wolves ive always had a thing with them but never really relized it like when i see them i feel safe its wierd i know what you mean though

@xdotxdotxdotx i have a really strong atraction to these birds, im jus not sure how to .. grow with it? im not sure how to put it in words, but do you understand? and can u maybe give me some pointers? :)

I encouner Owls, every now and then. I remember when i was about 11 years of age, and i was sitting kind of hidden and being slightly mischevious, and i looked up for some reason and there was a beautiful white owl looking down. ill never forget it. a few nights ago, i was driving home from work, into a road that has no lights, and i see this beautiful huge own in the middle of the road, facing me, it let me get quite close and then it flew off.
