Two teams (Claire Burrell & Natasha Beattie and Mark Birch & Simon Dickson) were transported by helicopter to a remote part of West Cumbria where they were dropped in the middle of nowhere! The challenge was a race to arrive at the Crown Hotel near Carlisle, within 24 hours. Each team ran, walked, climbed and cycled over 125km in challenging conditions. Each team had separate routes which included climbing a mountain pass, (Styhead Pass) and two mountains in the dark - Helvellyn and Skiddaw! The girl's eventually arrived at the finish line ahead of the boys in a time of just over 17 hours - a fantastic achievement. The teams raised over £4,000 for the Children in Need 2011 appeal in the process! The event was sponsored by Stobart's and the Crown Hotel, Wetheral. The challenge route was devised by Bigwalks Mountain Adventures (Bigwalks.com) who also provided guides for the mountain stages (Rob & Geoff) and together with Jeff and Craig from Stobart's, provided essential support throughout the event.
