  • im geechee but my folk run by ways of BEAUFORT SOUTH CAROLINA

  • Everyone please research this area discuss in our churches and all of our Greek meetings and club meetings. We need to turn this around for our people once and for all check out the websites,

  • @MeAndHubbyToo If we want to unite as African-Americans & fight for our islands, then we need to behave in that manner, and not decry it solely when it suits our needs. Links can be made by helping our people on the mainland RECLAIM of their culture what has been lost in globalization, etc, and that includes language, spirituality, and otherwise. Job development by our people, on behalf of our people needs to be a focus, as well.

To cut this short, we need to behave as if we want to be united.

  • @MeAndHubbyToo When we speak as if we are something else and them, over there, they're "African-Americans"...when we use condescending tones and shame our ancestor Dow Turner and the loving research he did in the name of his love for and commitment to his people, then we can't expect people to feel an interest in the cause of our island, and they don't see the value in the investment of their time, money, or fight. I hope that I don't sound harsh, but change starts at home.

  • @MeAndHubbyToo Ignorant tribalism that we thought we beat (at least that's what the world thinks of us), but is creeping up again in our culture. People need to be trained how to act, and that includes young people. Act and speak responsibly on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, etc. Or words can have consequences. I've tried gaining support for our islands, but all people can remember is very recent divisive speech from people descended from these regions. This is why we can't get our act together.

  • @gastoniaguide Can I be honest here? I don't expect people to "unite" to fight for our people in Sapelo (or the other islands), when there are people from those regions actively causing division and tribalism online and in public forums. I have seen time and time again, people using the term "the African-Americans" to prefer to people on the mainland as "the others" and making claims as to how they should be their own country (lawd, let's try owning our land first!).

  • @Nesheba Thanks ... I put it on my fb page and tweet; I'm forbidden to place it on some of my social network pages. I'm signing the petition....Lets all pray for this community and call on all of those in high places to help...this is just like Hilton Head Island...time for the Righteous to Unite....where is Al Sharpton? MalcomX tried to show us the way but no one is listening!
