The New Ford Pinto by Chrysler? Jeep Grand Cherokee Fuel Tank Fires, 1993-2004 Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee Vehicles with exposed plastic fuel tank located below the bumper and behind the rear axle. These Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokees have burst into flames or exploded in rear end impacts as slow as just 25MPH and there are millions of Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokees that are a danger to drivers and other drivers on the road.

It is also interesting that Jeep Grand Cherokee touted as a socalled "Trail Rated Off Road Ready" vehicle would have such an exposed fuel tank. It seems that Chrysler didn't learn much from history and suceeded in designing and manfacturing the "modern day Ford Pinto" for over 10 years.

  • 60 reported deaths in Grand Cherokees? Doesn't sound bad to me with almost 3 million of them on the road...

Hundreds of vehicles have the fuel tanks in the rear. They make it sound like it's unheard of. Same thing with the plastic tanks.

Grands are great vehicles. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and that's fine if you don't agree. I'll keep driving my 93 until it dies, which I don't see happening any time soon.

  • @jrmechanicoh Yeah it's pretty cool living on the edge knowing this "could" happen to you isn't it? FYI, this is just the "reported known deaths", the Ford Pinto actually had 27 reported deaths directly related to fuel tank fires. Don't get rear ended.

  • Is a plastic tank better or worse than a metal one?

  • Proper plastic fuel tanks are fine but like any fuel tank need to be protected (shouldn't be in a crush zone, stick out below the bumper etc.).

  • Wow you turned off all your comments and refuse messages unless someone is friends with you. Fucking pansy much.

Well I have owned Chrysler products all my life and never once had a problem. Most of the problems that occur with vehicles is, that arent design issues, are from owner neglegence.

  • Go back to your "Mopar Showroom", "Yepdxcrox Productions" AKA "Mentally handicapped productions", you punk. People died here, this is an actual news story, with actual facts, data and lives lost and you have such disrespect for lives lost you would dare come in here and BLAME them. Shame on you PUNK! Go back to jockin' mommies Chrysler minivan!

  • I turn off comments because I don't have time to argue with mentally handicapped, mindless Chrysler nutswingers like you.

THE DESIGNS ARE THE ISSUE YOU MORON, PEOPLE AS SHOWN IN THIS VIDEO HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES BECAUSE CHRYSLER PUT A PLASTIC UNPROTECTED FUEL TANK EXPOSED BELOW THE BUMPER WHERE THEY'VE EXPLODED IN REAR IMPACTS AS SLOW AS 25MPH, YOU FUCKIN' RETARD!

NEGLIGENCE, YES, OWNERS NO, THEY DIDN'T DESIGN THIS, CHRYSLER DID!

And people wonder why I disable comments?
