@gtasandman sorry I know this is a late response but one just drove past my spot with a detector. it just went off as a standard detector. 36 axles.

Grinding the rails is done not only for traction but for contact placement between the wheel and rail to minimize fuel consumption, stearing and braking power.

@Engine201 -grind the rails. haha.... actually that is exactly what they do - grind down the surfaces of the rails to put a new square edge on them.
