The FlevOnice is a 200km Speed Skating Race that takes place once a year on an outdoors artificial ice track. Each lap each 5km long and competitors can stop every now and again to get their race crd stamped as proof of completion of the laps. We went over to Holland to skate on long track ice rinks as well as to take part in the race. The Dutch call us the "Mad Brits" for bothering to travel such a way just to skate long track, but believe you me it is well worth it. We had a great time and a good laugh as well. It was lucky that we finished skating before the snow storm in the afternoon, but as you'll see in the video, the Dutch are used to it and just don't care about adverse weather.
I think the skating was great, the Dutch people fantastic and I can't wait till we're there again next year, 2011.
I love the idea of speed skating on a track that isnt just an oval. It makes it much more interesting and definitely more fun.
