@pabanil - She's from Switzerland!
-
that's an odd looking kitchen.
-
@niall29 No, she was not in mortal danger. The paramedics made the judgement call that she could go on based on the fact that she was still sweating, which ascertained that her body still had disposable fluids and as such she was not risking dangerous dehydration. That is a go/no go indicator, and she was still sweaty.
Yes, she was exhaused, to the point of hardly being able to stand up, but she was not in danger from it. If you look at the video you can see the medics following her closely.

@rollo131 You complete asshole. I bet your own mother hates you. This amazing woman was technically in the death zone as she struggled with the heat, she won the LA marathon the year before. You total moron.

This video has a problem with the audio. Is this exact same video somewhere else but with good audio? Thanks!
-
@rollo131 She finished this marathon in 2:48:42, even in the state of complete exhaustion apparent in the video, so perhaps there was nothing wrong with her training. Most marathoners would understand and respect that number. Also, it was quite hot in LA that day.

@rollo131 Well, she was not exactly a rookie, she reached discrete results in marathon:
#1 (Colorado 1982)
#6 (Boston 1983)
#1 (Minneapolis 1983)
#1 (Sacramento 1983)
#11 (NY 1984)
#5 (Osaka 1985)
and she even won some marathons in the '70.
That day was just an unlucky day for her... ;-)
Respect. One of the most amazing sporting moments I have ever seen.
