I agree. We use what makes the horror stop . I agree. Best wishes to your sobriety. Have the nightmares stopped? I hope so.

Meth was the least challenging of both my immediate withdrawals and longterm sobriety, as well. Alcohol was very difficult, but opiates were always the things that grabbed onto me the most. It depends on what the person is coping with and their physiology. Opiates made my nightmares and flashbacks stop, helped with my depression/anxiety, and all of the other things associated with non-combatative PTSD. Anyway, hope you stay clean and sober. Cheers.

And I had a duality issue myself with meth as the counter part. I quit meth like it was nothing. Alcohol is an entirely different beast.

The steps are the spiritual magic that keeps peeps sober. Nothing else works long term like AA and it's principles and nothing else out there bullshitting it's self as a solution to drinking does it for anywhere near free.

Maybe you've opened my eyes somewhat with the truth about the Lord's Prayer. Maybe AA only works for Christians? Repent then fool. Get saved and sobriety all on one swoop. Sorry The Lord's Prayer was a deal breaker. Yyou don't have to participate in that.

2/2: And yes, that was me, and although opiates are what harmed me the most, I did have a minor seizure during alcohol withdrawals, though other factors may have contributed. And virtually every meeting—in the fifty miles surrounding me—closes with the Lord's Prayer. That undoubtedly has Judeo-Christian connotations. Anyway, best of luck to you as well.

1/2: I'm nowhere near magically cured. It's a daily struggle, and I've been close to relapsing a few times. My point is that the steps are not the be-all end-all to recovery, regardless of how many people insist that the program is the sole way to personal redemption and cessation of destructive behavior. It simply isn't. I have no doubt that it's helped a multitude of people. What I do have is animosity for claims promoting it as unchallengable, perfect for everyone and absolute.

An alcoholic is a person that just can't say no to a drink and wants to drink constantly. Was that you? Do you really believe that 90 meetings in AA and you are magically cured? You haven't even begun to do an inventory. Still good luck . And the twelve steps are not affiliated to ant sect cult or religion.

The 3rd step says made a decision to turn our will and lives over to the care of God as we understood HIm. Does that say Judaeo Christian? Muslim Hindu? Buddhist? Or any named religion?
