This piece is such bullshit. The government robs the population of trillions each year, and somehow they still never have enough to even attempt the bare minimum that is asked. There are always excuses: our equipment is old, we don't have total dictatorial control, we're underfunded, this Amendment or that Amendment support terrorism, our CCTV cameras didn't work that day, on and on.

We should be firing these assholes!

@omgitsmikegravel I agree with you that there are plenty of corporations eager to feed at the public trough. Where we differ is that you seem to think it's possible to have a big, fat public trough and not attract the worst cheaters to it. Those who will steal come from both the official bureaucracies and the private sector. But it's the government monopoly power over money and laws that makes it all possible. Today that power is wielded without constitutional, moral, rational limits.

@leafwatch But, it's a mistake to think of this problem as purely coming from government. Privatization of corrections and correction services is creating an incentive for private companies to lobby for more prisons and harsher penalties, and it's having an impact. There's a program by American Radio Works called "Correction, Inc." that you can find online and you might find it worth a google.

How can you ignore the statistic in my last comment; the government wages such fierce war against its own people, the rate of citizens in jail exceeds the rate of every other country in the world. This is fact, not hysteria, with families destroyed, children not nurtured -- for generations. The rate is escalating fast.
