There were three or four times in the show/tv movies where Steve was running, but not in slow motion. He was haulling ass! I always thought he'd do 60 mph because of what I saw on the "treadmill" but some sites claim he could move a bit faster. Heck, I wouldn't mind being able to run 30 mph!

  • Yeah, I also remember a few times. One time, he's running across a field. It only lasts a few seconds but at least for one of the few times it's in real life speed (real for his bionic character). I wish they hadn't used the slow motion that often.

You know, I think somewhere on my hard drive I have that "running across a field" at full speed. If Steve can run 60+ , I'd say on that broken terrain he was moving, on foot, maybe 50 mph. In the scene of which you speak, I think a posted sentry saw him and he couldn't believe his eyes.

  • I could have lived with the slo-mo running, but the fighting in slow-mo was hard to watch. And what was with all the missiles sounds every time he/she threw something?! Cheesy, still dig it.

  • In The Pilot 6MDM TV Movie where he is out in the dessert,it shows him running at fast & slow

motion. They show should have done that more during it's original run on tv.

  • I was sort of a fan of Martin Caidin's Steve Austin before TSMDM came out... So, when ABC produced the show and had Steve Austin performing these stupid slo-mo tricks every week, I was very disappointed. See, Caidin's Steve Austin evolved from a suicidal invalid test pilot into a James Bond-like character. TSMDM just never captured the magic of that transformation.

  • In the 3 original pilots, "Little Orphan Airplane", and "Nuclear Alert" he also runs at genuine high speed. I think there are actually TWO scenes in LOA, although the first one when he's moving the injured pilot in the wagon is badly done and looks more like something from the Keystone Cops, the second scene when he has to get the repaired engine to the airplane is brilliantly directed though.

  • the scene in which he is running in the field at full speed is from the episode "One of our running backs is missing", for those who want to know

  • @mikereidaHave to agree with you the running scene by the fence was very well done and looked quite natural and your right it would of been nice if they could of recreated that technique more often in the series even if for a few seconds every so often

  • I know about the one with the sentry, there's even a video with that scene (it's in one of those compilation videos of the bionic man that lasts a a few minutes) on youtube. But I thought there was another one.

They did a real good job in the pilot movie when he's running behind a fence -during his rehabilitation- He doesn't seem to move unnaturally quickly and still goes fast.

Too bad there wasn't more of that in the series.
