Clearly the flute player here is Hubert Laws, who has his own version of this song. It's on his "Say it with Silence" album from the late 70s. On this he plays alto flute and interestingly enough, Joe Sample plays keyboards. Hubert plays such thought-provoking solos that you hang onto every note and just want him to play more and more and more...

@cyleroy3 You were very fortunate. What a neat show. I saw Joe Sample and Wilton Felder in Charlotte, NC in the early 1980's at Ovens Auditorium. They are a great act.

Always loved the Crusaders' version, and this is terrific as well. saw Joe live a few years ago in York, PA in an intimate jazz club setting with just acoustic piano, bass, and drums - what a treat!

That's right, Joe is the man. He wrote the thing. I can't believe the original Crusaders version isn't on Youtube, though. That's the one I grew up on. Check out Joe's "There are Many Stops Along the Way. Nice uptempo jam.

Oh yea, bro. Joe's the man. Don't get me wrong, Ritenour's version sounds beautiful too. In fact, back in 1989 is when I had his version on cassette tape. Rite, I'm taking it WAY back, son! hahahaha Take care.
