***Of course, the Tigers did eventually make the playoffs that season.***
Can;t say I was very happy October 4, 2011.

Dear VintageDetroit...you stand corrected on the date. This and the other two parts of this broadcast were from May 3, 1987.
If only Sparky coached the Lions, who finished last in the NFC Central that year.

He was our Sparky and while he sometimes was a little over the top with predictions, this one was right on the mark. 1987 was a magical year and wasn't supposed to happen. With the right breaks, we would have seen the World Series that year too.

I remember this. I thought he was nuts when he came out with that statement! LOL. Sparky was one of a kind.

I was at the Sunday Game in Oakland that year, we were in the right field bleachers heckling Tom Brookens. As an A's fan , me and my pops both have agreed that the Tigers have the best visiting fans.

I'm a Jays fan, but yep, Sparky called it back in April of '87 "Come Oct. 4th, everyone in Detroit will be happy" And they were:-D
Until they met the Twins in the ALCS that is...;-)
