If you D&B using a blank layer set on SL and using B&W to D&B, you generally dont get Hue shifts. Which is the better way to D&B. And negates the need for this. FYI. You can do the same with a 50% gray layer, also set on SL and B&D on that, but this technique takes up more memory and is less editable.

@decoff: Actually no, you still get the shifts as I show at approximately 4:14.
Also a solid color is compressed in RAM so it won't take up more space.
If you want to try it out yourself, create a new document, fill the background layer with neutral gray and create a new layer set to "Soft Light". On it paint with black/white. Create a snapshot in history and watch the file size in memory. Create a blank layer in SL mode underneath, set SL to "Normal" and flatten them. Compare memory size.
