Union Vets Stepping Up to Support Governor Strickland

Union veterans, like Joe Lewis of NALC Branch 182, Joan Hunter of OCSEA/AFSCME, Arnold Scott of AFSGE 6th District, and Jamie Fant of OCSEA/AFSCME, are voting and volunteering for Governor Strickland and working family candidates because they know that they will fight for issues important to veterans and working families. "Governor Strickland has always supported the veterans here in Ohio because he is for the working class and continues to always support all Ohio veterans and veterans all across America," said Hunter in between phone banking earlier this month. Governor Strickland has fought for nearly $2 billion in increased veterans funding, created the Ohio GI Promise to provide free education to veterans across the country at in-state tuition rates and worked to exempt military retirement benefits from Ohio's income tax.

Earlier this month, the Ohio Union Veterans Council announced the release a statement of endorsement of Ohio statewide candidates today, including Governor Ted Strickland. Once established, the Ohio Union Veterans Council will be the largest organization in Ohio advocating for the rights of union members who are veterans. Currently, the Council represents hundreds of union veterans across the state to bring together union leaders and union veterans to speak out on veterans' issues and influence public policy to improve the quality of life for U.S. veterans and their families.
