Wiscontrepreneur 100-Hour Challenge 2009
** Winner - Most Potential Value **
Test Tube Terrarium
By Joe Powell

The Test Tube Terrarium idea was a complete accident. I had gotten the test tubes because I thought they looked cool. I eventually decided to put plants in them because my roommate had two he kept as dorm pets. A friend suggested also putting fish in, since they are the only animal pet allowed in dorms. Adding the UV light ensured that the fish and plants would flourish even in a dorm room, which in most cases is void of all natural light during the winter.

In addition, I've already had 3 offers to purchase the TTT. The unique shapes and UW design make the TTT an attractive display for fish and plant life. Not bad for a bunch of old chemistry junk.

What is the 100-Hour Challenge?

Contestants have 100 hours to take their best shot at doing something entrepreneurial from Wednesday, February 18, 2009 to Sunday, February 22, 2009.

They only can spend $15 at the UW SWAP Sale to find their components. UW SWAP (Surplus with a Purpose) is a campus unit that sells surplus university equipment, ranging from athletic gear to lab equipment.

The winner for each of the following categories will receive a $300 cash prize: * Most value (money) generated * Most social value generated * Most creative

In addition, a $100 Peoples Choice prize will be awarded to the contestant whose entry is accessed/viewed online by the most people.

  • Retarded idea.. Fucking stupid.. The fish will clearly become unhappy about the lack of space and become sluggish due to the stress..That is also the shittiest terrarium I have ever seen..

  • @Naizgroth Your eloquence is remarkable, though you obviously did not understand the point of the whole project. Thanks for getting so riled up about a video that I made 2.5 years ago with $15 worth of junk.

  • A great video, and a great idea! Thanks for posting. Just a quick question; what type of UV light did you use? It looked sort-of like an IR rather than UV but I figure maybe it's a mixed UV-Vis bulb? Just curious, thanks!

  • Just another class I slept in.. lol
