  • Cost is not only cheaper but wood reduction is dramatic. Wood rots, steel lasts for years. Wood frame is not agile (moveable) as prefab containers serve a purpose to dramatically reduce on site labor and waste. Does it make it easier? yes, cheaper yes!

  • At the top of the green structure, which looks like its holding up the deck in the rear of the house, is supposed to be a sunken hot tub, but I never finished the animation properly . This is a brick chimney that heats the water by wood burning at ground level and the water circulating up to the tub,

  • Most of our units are CSS approved... city approved building permits for Zigloo house in Victoria, BC.

Cities are changing attitudes to alternatives. We have to stop the mentality of status quo if it means cutting down forests to build homes. The greens are taking over.

  • Isbu's are used as a structural framing module, plain and simple. They are quickly put in place and connected. In a few days you could easily erect 4-5,000 sq. ft. of structure.

Isbu's are made from Cor-Ten steel and epoxy painted.

Using a ceramic additive to paint the interior and exterior of the unit prevents heat from entering and heat from leaving. By insulating with closed cell insulation on the interior, minimal furring is required to obtain a far more energy efficient building shell.

  • I meant rotate the top teir 90deg. ,lol

  • @mdmf007 Probably more since they are cheaper than shipping them back empty

  • I have a shipping container home. they are also built with rubber based paint and rust resistant metal because they are subject to the salt water and air aboard the ships.

  • that is so freaking awesome!!

  • If you are considering modular or prefab home, building with recycled shipping containers is worth taking a look at.

Good resource is the Residential Shipping Container Primer website. A SHOWCASE OF SHIPPING CONTAINER HOMES AND BUILDINGDS, AND A DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) REFERENCE FOR CONVERTING RECYCLED INTERMODAL CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS INTO BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE.

Lots of great example buildings, details, facts, and links to other articles...

  • if this were to be constructed in real life, how much approximately do you think this would cost to build?

  • @Zerocabin do you have an idea about design of container house in the tropics,

i wuold like to build one heat and drainage arrangement seems to be an issue her

  • It's a beach house. make a living roof add hand rails along the top and some chairs. for enjoying the view.

  • Where can we see building plans to see if we like it?

  • @testbooster

snow shouldnt be a problem, they use containers in Antartica and they have no problems with caving in roofs there ;)
