Griots are the keepers of oral tradition. The same way a book would tell the history of your people in writing, griots pass it down in song, from generation to generation. This griot is singing to our visitor from Canada "Tubabu ke" (foreign man)
Les griots gardent le tradition oralement de la meme facon que tu apprends l'histoire d'un livre d'un maniere ecrit. Seulement les griots chantent l'histoire et apprend ca a les nouvelles generations. Cette griot chante a notre voyageur du Canada. "Tubabu Ke" Homme etranger

Yur wlcm. The poster n commenters aren't totally wrong, just missing part of the story. Griots do keep oral tradition, but she's not singing about Mansa Musa, she's singing about the family, nation, well-being and good features of the dude standing in front of her. I see some comments mention money; they get that she's kind of hoping for payment. Crazy that it's an American (and not nat. speaker) who thinks her French is bad. People around the world don't usually speak textbook French.

She's not only singing TO this guy from Can. (who is a bystander or was actually invited to this wedding), she's singing ABOUT & FOR him (and other Canadians around). She's praising them & the country. People who posted this & are commenting on it r missing the point. Griots sing praises (among other things). She is subtly expecting compensation for her words. Jeliw are paid for their memories and voices. Her French isn't bad; just has a Bamana accent. And, most of this is in Bamana, not French.

yeah..il faut me envoyer en chez toi, yeah right...
... the actual meaning of tubabu is white person, tubabukè = white man. Stranger/foreigner: lonlan (maninka) or dunan (bambara).
