This song was originally performed by Zhou Xuan 周璇 and taken from the 1937 movie 《三星伴月》. It was later covered by many other artistes, more popularly by Li Xiang Lan 李香蘭 and of course, one of the most enduring version was recorded by the late Teresa Teng 邓丽君. Zhou Xuan's 2nd son, Zhou Wei once said that whenever he hears her version, it reminded him of his mother. So, here is a dedication to both Zhou Xuan's legacy and the ever popular Teresa Teng.

He Ri Jun Zai Lai

hao hua bu chang kai hao jing bu chang zai
jin xiao li bie hou he ri jun zai lai
he wan liao zhe bei qing jin dian xiao cai
ren sheng nan de ji hui jui bu huan geng he dai
(spoken) lai lai lai he wan le zhe bei zai shuo ba
jin xiao li bie hou he ri jun zai lai

yin qin pin zhi yu lao lao fu jun huai
jin xiao li bie hou he ri jun zai lai
he wan liao zhe bei qing jin dian xiao cai
ren sheng nan de ji hui jui bu huan geng he dai
(spoken) ai zai he yi bei gan le ba
jin xiao li bie hou he ri jun zai lai

yu lou pin xiang cui liang chen qu bu hui
yi ke qian jin jia tong yin mo pai huai
jin xiao li bie hou he ri jun zai lai
he wan liao zhe bei qing jin dian xiao cai
ren sheng nan de ji hui jui bu huan geng he dai
(spoken) ai zai he yi bei gan le ba
jin xiao li bie hou he ri jun zai lai

  • This is one of the top Mandarin song. Instantly recognizable in places where Chinese people lives.

Sung by Zhou Xuan > Li Shiang-Lan > Deng Li-Chun which were all time greats.

Heard this first 50 years ago and since then tucked at the back of my mind ever since. I am now an old man but still reminiscences the "good ole days" when our generation enjoy these songs.

Singer here has a fine voice & interpret this song her way. A refreshing version. Great orchestra backing- very original. Thanks

  • @goldbullions Must have been the original Zhou Xuan or movie-themed Li Xiang Lan version that you heard 50 years ago. So, here's to another 50 more for a timeless classic. Cheers!

  • @sallapirom Glad to hear that it's made your day. Being English educated shouldn't prevent you from speaking and singing in Mandarin as long as you have a basic grasp of Hanyu Pinyin and its 4 intonations, which isn't difficult to master. Enjoy!

  • @DeProducers Thanks a Million and a Million ! Being a Malaysian Chinese and only educated in English has it's downside to learn to sing in Mandarin but thanks again to you for making it possible to sing along this very very golden oldie. This has made me very delighted !!! You have absolutely made my day !

  • @sallapirom Thank you for viewing this channel. Noted your difficulty in finding romanised lyrics for this song and thought we will do you a favour by typing out the Hanyu Pinyin for each line of lyrics and added it to the comments of this video. Please also be aware that during performances, artists may not sing the song in its entirety and may leave out certain less known verses. Hope the lyrics make your day. Cheers!
