Dr. Farzad Mostashari, National Coordinator of Health Information Technology for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, delivers a keynote speech at the Northern Virginia Community College graduation ceremony.

He explains to graduates the importance of their role in the health care revolution occurring across the country through the implementation of health IT. He also provides an explanation as to why this health care revolution is happening now, discussing the HITECH Act, meaningful use incentive payments, and EHR implementation statistics.

In addition, Dr. Mostashari explains that health IT is not simply about technology, but instead about a health care transformation. He concludes by reminding graduates that the patient and patient privacy should be at the center of their work.
