This May, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance (NYTWA) led a motorcade of taxi drivers up to Albany in order to meet with state legislators and push for the Taxi Driver Protection Act (A.10058-A/S.7022-A) to increase the penalty of an assault on taxi drivers and require warning signs in the back of taxis. This bill is the first deterrence to be implemented in our industry in over twenty years (since the partition was mandated). Sixty times more likely to be killed on the job than other workers, the Taxi Driver Protection Act will help keep 100,000 taxicab, livery and black car drivers safe on the job.
