BRIDGEWATER — He is 5 years old, but it was a day he has anticipated for years.
On Tuesday, Michael Ander son and his twin brother, Steven, were issued their first library cards. It was the day before Hal loween, but the anticipation in their eyes said "Christmas."
Now that they can each write their full names, the boys joined the 17,163 card holders of the Bridgewater Public Library, but they won't enjoy the benefits that older children have.
Since a series of budget cuts this fall, culminating in a $328,000 cut voted at special town meeting Oct. 9, the li brary's hours have been cut to 15 hours a week, 10 library staff were laid off — including chil dren's librarian Joanne Doherty — and all its programs have been eliminated, including chil dren's programs.
