The 12:00pm Firing of the cannon. In the times of the fort not many citizens had watches or clocks. The base would fire the cannon at 12 noon to alert people to the time of day. The ending of this video contains a rather "jumpy" ending!

  • Not sure I would say sad. Sometimes to make it relevant as a tourist destination progress needs to be made. As far as I could tell they tried to make this as delicately as possible.

  • That wasn't a real round and the camera person fliched anyway. Truely timid people inhabit this planet these days. Shamefull. Where's the real artilliry videos, with live HE shells.

  • It was loud enough for me! Some people would see the humour in it like me, you choose to see shame? To each his own.

  • Your angle is way better than where i was, windy though eh?

  • Yeah it was a rather windy summer day when I shot this. We were lucky it wasn't too busy when we were there so we were able to get fairly close.

  • No you didn't get it on video - you knock the camera and we missed it!

  • if they actually fired in that pace, they would be deadmeat when the time came

  • If you want to see a more realistic cannon fire , visit the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine. You won't be dissapointed.

  • @gulac1104

Well their doing this to make it look professional, with the US Military of the time I doubt they would be as disciplined and would probably attempt to fire as many rounds as possible...

  • Did is seriously take them 4 minutes to fire a ball? wtf.

  • um may i ask when did the damn thing fire cause i didnt here a damn thing

  • thats alot of work for a single cannon shot. and it took forever. i would have fired 15 rounds in that time with my cannon.

  • @ckyownz9 they move slow so that the audience can see properly.

but in war every second is important.

  • slow ass crew

  • what wound be awesome was if it was a whole row of cannons firing actual amunition

  • I love fort henry

I go there when ever i can [i live in historic kingston]

  • i heard a rumor that the guard used to sneak frozen grapefruit up on the barbette and aim for the tower on cedar island...don't know if it's true or not...
