See our entire index of CompTIA A+ videos at http://www.FreeAPlus.com - There are many network troubleshooting tools available at the command line. In this video, you'll learn how to use tools such as ping, tracert, nslookup, netstat, and many others.
@xliquidc00lx If you cant connect to the interwebs and you ping your router and you dont get a echo, your router is down! If you can get a echo, it rules out anything wrong with the router. If your working on a machine in a office, pinging the router, servers etc is a easy way to troubleshoot.

Im new at this stuff, so excuse me if I sound silly but why is "pinging" neccessary? What are you accomplishing by doing it? How does it help? Thanks.

@tubesai labsim is a joke; but good for a basic course in my opinion; honestly, nothing beats the microsoft help forums on the microsoft products or even google if you need it in layman's. I do not use ping at work, specificly for the impact on security; ping is disabled by default. I do however, use ARP Netstat for active connections to "X" or tracert on "X".
