Classic traditional song, "The Leaving of Liverpool," performed by Jesse Ferguson, the Bard of Cornwall. My version is inspired by many others including the Pogues', the Dubliners' and countless other bands' versions.
You may notice that I recorded this song early on in my youtube days. I'm gradually going to start phasing out some of those earlier versions. My reasons are that I think I've improved as a musician, and, more importantly, my new recording equipment is much better.

  • Thankyou for helping to keep real music alive, I love this and the chemical workers song upsets me every time I hear it. . . in a nice way. Where can i buy an album?

  • @humouriseverything Thanks for the support! My album is available at CDBaby.com. See the video description for the link.

  • great stuff! awhile back you inspired me to finally get a mandolin and learn how to play it. Thanks!! Quick question: What kind of pic do you use? I have a mandolin pic (it's really thick, the brand is Golden Gate) but it is hard to strum with it for songs such as this.

  • @weplaytheguitar I use a small "stubby" pick, which is quite hard. Make sure yours has some texture/grip on the holding portion. That improves control.

  • I like this version much much better than your original one

  • @tragicdeceit I'm glad to hear that!

  • Great work mate. You're the first person I have ever subscribed to. Keep it up. How about a recording of "Northwest Passage" that I could buy somewhere!?

  • Good to see a re-recording of this! Much better, and I enjoyed how you changed the chord progression at the end there.

  • sounds great!

  • Amazingly talented.

  • Thank you for all the music. I certainly understand why you would want to slowly phase out the older material and it is your performance to do with what you deem to be the best course, but I would also like to mention that there is something to be said about being able to witness your continuing improvement as a musician that is inspiring in itself to many musicians, both amateur and otherwise. Just a thought.

  • 100th like, keep up the great work!
