yup from silicon valley well used to be im on the uc davis kendo team now we got first lastyear at the harvard shoryuhai and third this year.

Well, there are lots of explanations, I guess. Zanshin is explained to us as something like keeping the attention even after the hit. Practically this is because the person you cut could still be alive if the cut was not good enough. In kendo you follow through after each cut to make distance to your opponent so he cannot hit you back.
(Only my view on this)

actually its a way ot show that your hit was intentional not an accident. Its just a good form.
