I just sent in a mini to be painted by a pro. It has black paint on it since someone *was* going to make an attempt to paint it locally. Why does the black primer need to be stripped? Is it just an unsuitable base for certain colors? Is it because you don't know exactly what they used?

@DwarSel does that stuff work on Plastic Minis? And where can u find it?

@Davetacular45 well thats perfect! accept, i decided to sell my warhammer like not even a month after i asked this :/ but thx anyway

I've been using the only thing I could find, "Greenworks" (seems to be Clorox's answer to Simple Green) on both my metal and plastic minis. I put them in yesterday (the minis I have have a really thick few layers of muddy paint stuck on to them, long story) so far, it seems to be doing the job.
Although I'm not sure, does anyone know if this product causes any damage to the plastic?

@born2drift1 In case you are still wondering, Pine Sol is in Canada, or in Ontario, at least.

i wonder if you took a q tip to a plastic model if it would work with out melting the model

I just use nail varnish remover. =D Although, I hear brake fluid works the best. It will never melt plastic models so you leave it for as long as you like =)

will this work for metal miniatures that i basecoated in krylon camo paints?
How long do you soak them?

If there is a lot of paint on them, I tend to soak them overnight (Especially if they have a coat of varnish on them). If its just a basecoat, 3 or 4 hours is more than enough.

Plastic models will melt in Pine Sol.
I've heard Simple green works on Plastic, but i've never tried it myself.

Does this work for the plastic and metal models, or just metal?

Plastic does become a bit soft if you use this technique. You can use it on plastic minis, but if you do, when you take the plastic minis out of the soak, you can't touch them until they dry for a while. The surface is a bit like clay and will easily dent and scar.
