Tacarra spent much of the past year at The Children's Medical Center of Dayton. Her experience at Dayton Children's began when she came to the Regional Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Center complaining of severe headaches and diminished vision in one eye. Doctors in the emergency center examined Tacarra and determined immediately that there was something seriously wrong; she was sent for a CT scan of the brain. The results of the CT showed that Tacarra had a massive, suprasellar tumor involving the brain and optic nerves. The tumor also caused hydrocephalus, the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in her brain. Her normal fluid pathways were blocked because of the size and location of the tumor, and this resulted in increased pressure in her skull. Tacarra underwent an extensive surgery to remove the tumor.
