I agree a 100%. I'm involved in pilot training since 37 years, flew L1011 for 15 years, last 17 years all FBW Airbus types. Every third approach and landing on the Tristar was done manual no FD, I used Autothrottle on just a few LVO approaches. On the A330 I was in charge as FC and as long I was in charge the policy was manual flight manual thrust. Meanwhile I work for an Airline in ME and the policy is use automation whenever possible.
