Song written by Eric Taylor

Pic: Crazy Horse. There has been statements that no pic was ever taken of him.

I want to make a short statement about the Sioux Indian tribes of the South Dakota region. There was a Treaty signed 'Fort Laramie' in the mid-1800s that the Sioux were to be granted the Black Hills land area in South Dakota, which was their land since 6,000 BC. However, this land was confiscated from them by the US Government after the treaty was signed when gold was discovered, being used mainly for gold/silver mining purposes (number one region in the world). The Sioux continue to fight for their land but it has still not been given back to them and may never be... The US Government has offered the Sioux a large financial settlement (106 million), but the Sioux refuse to sell-out and will not accept the money in place of their sacred land (the money sits in an account that now amounts to somewhere around 800 million). Several areas of the Black Hills are now polluted by ground contamination and have been disturbed by many years of mining practices and continue to be used by the US Government for various purposes, which includes advancing mining technology. I want people to know that it is the sacredness of their land that matters most to the Sioux tribes, not the money.

  • This image has been confirmed as the only image ever taken of Crazy Horse. Putt and Jill Thompson owners of Custer battlefield Trading Post own the image and have the documentation to prove it. I have travelled 177,000 across the Great Plains in the last three decades and spent eleven years writing a Battlefields, Monuments and Markers book. I also wrote a Great Plains album with young Australian musician Chris Fisher. My name is Andrew Hogarth.

  • @MrAndrewHogarth Thanks for posting this info. If this is the only real pic of him- he was a very strong & striking man. I think most of the statues/sculptures of him make him out to be very masculine & beefy. Perhaps people find it hard to believe that an Indian man who is lean, natural looking w/a bit of elegance & grace in his disposition could be such a great warrior. I recommend people to watch PBS 'We Shall Remain' series on-line to gain knowledge about Indian culture.

  • I get so annoyed when people claim this picture to be of Crazyhorse. I have yet to find any evidence that it is especially when any books written about him say that he was never photographed.

  • Are you Cheyenne Sioux?

  • It has never been confirmed to be Crazy Horse. He would have never posed for a photo like this as well. Too degrading.

  • Hard to imagine him ever allowing to be photographed, but maybe...this warrior's hair appears brown, perhaps, and slightly wavy, like Crazy Horse's supposedly. They say he was not tall, and this man appears to not be tall.

Crazy Horse is a hero of mine--an earlier Che Guevara. A truly great man.

  • @IndigoJo He also wrote another good song about Indian suffrage called Joseph Cross- it is on youtube.

  • That photo was never confirmed to be Crazy Horse....Great song and brings a tear.

  • It's about the death of Crazy Horse, the Sioux leader who defeated Gen. Custer at Little Bighorn.

  • Eric Taylor, NG's ex-husband, wrote it. He actually wrote or co-wrote several of her earlier songs, including the title track from Storms.
