  • I grew up in the 70's and was a catcher. The big three for me were Munson Bench and Fisk... These were real catchers who played tough and had the respect. Munson was a leader and an influence on me. I remember seeing him nail a runner at second from his knees and was like "awesome". I went out the next day and practiced that move for hours.... Baseball was never the same after that..

  • Thurman Munson was a hero to me, as a human being and as a ball player. I was devastated when he left us...I'm so glad he hasn't been forgotten.

  • I was short and stocky and he inspired me as a young catcher. I wore that number from the age of nine all the way up through the levels of organized ball. So much, in fact, that I ended up leading my state in batting average at the highschool level and throwing runners out on attempted steals. Sad to say, I was offered a tryout with the Reds organization but the message from the scout never reached me. Regardless, I wore Number 15 with pride and a Yankee ballcap under my mask all those years.
