When you convert mechanical energy to electrical in the alternator you lose a great deal (more than half) of your energy because an alternator isn't too efficient. You lose a great deal more of your energy going back from electrical to mechanical in your motors. You'de get much faster propeller and wing action if you ran everything mechanically instead of converting to electrical then back to mechanical, it would be ligher too.
