Concerto for Violin and Orchestra Op.14 by Samuel Barber. Violin: Leonid Kogan Conductor: Pavel Kogan (Leonid's son) UKRAINIAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Rec. 12/15/1981
This is a very unusual performance. Rough tone, out of tune, weird use of rubatos--the kind of performance you might hear from a talented high schooler. For anyone familiar with this piece, and familiar with any of the several fine recordings of it, this is somewhat excruciating.
Ho,my goodness...someone saying that the Stern Recording is the best of this concerto...for me is the WORST and I don't like this one either....I have the Gil Shaham recording and cannot listen any other rendition without wanting to kill the violinist..!
This is very good, but IMHO the stern recording is the best rendition of this concerto I have ever heard. Unfortunately it appears to have been removed YouTube.
