I'm curious: I'm interested in purchasing a used GS400, but with the influx of HD technology, do you think it would still be a good investment? Because of the transitions into HD, would it be future proofing my footage, or will the overall quality of the GS400 prevail? What do you figure?

Hi, I would recommend getting a canon hv20 or 30 now as the picture quality is superior to the gs400..the gs400 is a nice camcorder but the canons picture is crisp and HD which gives you plenty to play with if your outputing to SD.

Hello, im torn between getting the hv30 or the sony sr12 do u like the sony hdr sr12?

I just checked out a HD clip shot with a sr12and it looks great and I would say that they look equal at first glance. the sr12 record's to hard disk and the hvs record to dv tape so i guess you have to decide whats more convenient, also hv20s are very cheap these days which would also leave some money spare for accessories.

Can you please tell me how you compressed this video for you tube, I have the same camera but never had results like that!
Lovely presentation.

Thanks, the original file is 320 x 240 compressed with windows media 9 codec at 4000kbps @ 30fps..but that was when youtube didnt have the high quality option. If you upload a full size resolution (720x576) clip at 4000kbps you will get good quality. If you watch the video response called " The Krate Krusaders feat Jargon Live @ UPSU - 14th April 08'" that was a HDV clip I uploaded at 1440x1080 and youtube handled it fine.
